The General Announcements states, "All oral thesis defenses must take place on the Rice University campus with the candidate and all thesis committee members in physical attendance." Generally, defenses are expected to take place in person but due to the changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, students can defend in person, virtually or in a hybrid mode. Students wanting to defend virtually or in a hybrid mode, need to submit a zoom link with their submission below.
Doctoral candidates must register their defense 14 calendar days before the day of defense.
Masters candidates must register their defense 7 calendar days before the day of defense.
If using zoom for your defense, we strongly encourage you to troubleshoot the technology prior to your defense. Information about zoom can be found here: https://kb.rice.edu/84808 Please contact IT if you need additional assistance.
Please include a link to your zoom defense below your abstract in the same text field.
